원빈은 영화 ‘살인의 추억’과 ‘괴물’로 작품성과 흥행성 모두를 인정받은 봉준호 감독의 이번 작품에서 중견 배우 김혜자와 함께 어머니와 아들로 출연하게 됐다. 원빈은 극중 스물여덟의 나이답지 않게 선량함과 순진함이 공존하는 캐릭터를 연기하게 된다.
그동안 군 복무 후 여러 작품의 러브콜 속에서도 신중한 행보를 보여왔던 원빈은 이번 영화로 스타이기보다는 배우로 남겠다는 자신의 의지를 관철시킨 것으로 평가되고 있다.
올 가을에 촬영에 들어가는 ‘마더’는 살인 누명을 쓴 아들(원빈)과 이 누명을 벗기기 위해 고군분투하는 어머니(김혜자)의 이야기를 그린다. 내년 상반기 개봉 예정이다. (4월 8일자 23면)

"Mother," which will be filmed starting this fall, will be about a son who is accused of murder, and his mother who does everything she can to free her son from such accusations. The movie is planned to be released by the beginning of next year.
