미국 타임지가 크레용팝을 거론하며 K-pop의 삼촌팬 문화를 소개해 눈길을 끌었다.
미국 시사주간지 타임은 지난 2일(현지시각) ‘K-pop의 의외의 팬: 중년 남성(K-Pop’s Unlikeliest Fans: Middle-Age Males)’라는 제목의 기사를 통해 K-pop의 중년 남성 팬들에 대해 보도했다.
타임은 이 기사에서 “10대 위주의 K-pop 가수들의 공연에 ‘삼촌팬’으로 불리는 중년 남성들의 활약은 놀라운 광경”이라고 전했다. 타임은 이어 미국의 K-pop 열성팬인 47세 스티븐 나이트의 말을 인용해 “K-pop의 삼촌팬들은 극도의 섹시함보다 재미를 추구하는 그룹을 좋아하는 경향이 있다”고 설명했다. 특히 “한 예로 중독성 있는 ‘빠빠빠’로 K-pop 음원차트 상위권까지 오른 5인조 걸그룹 크레용팝은 가장 눈에 띄는 삼촌팬을 보유하고 있는 그룹 중 하나”라고 소개했다.
한편, 크레용팝의 팬들은 일명 ‘팝저씨’로 불리며 유명세를 떨치고 있다. 크레용팝과 똑같은 의상을 입고, 공개 방송마다 굵은 목소리로 응원하는 ‘팝저씨’들은 신인이나 다름없던 크레용팝의 인기 수직 상승에 가장 큰 힘을 보탰다는 평가다.

TIME “Crayon Pop, K-Pop singer has the greatest number of ‘uncle’ fandoms”
TIME mentioned Crayon Pop and introduced the uncle fans culture of K-pop.
A weekly newsmagazine TIME reported about middle-age males fans of K-pop through the article titled ’K-Pop’s Unlikeliest Fans: Middle-Age Males’ last September 2.
It explained “Middle-age male fans called ’Uncle Fan’ of teenagers-oriented K-pop concerts are surprising.” One of those fans, Stephen Knight(47) said that an ‘uncle’ fan culture for the K-pop groups tend to project fun rather than extreme sexuality.
Especially he introduced “Crayon Pop, the quintet whose song “Bar Bar Bar” has been shooting up the K-pop charts. Crayon Pop has one of the most visible ‘uncle’ fandoms.”
Meanwhile, fans of Crayon Pop are called ’Popjushi’ and have been getting famous. It’s evaluated that ’Popjushi’ wears the same costume like Crayon Pop and supports them in a deep voice on an every show. It brought Crayon Pop who is like-new a great deal of popularity.
