신예 걸그룹 퍼플레이의 소속사 퍼플아이이앤티 측은 퍼플레이의 데뷔곡 안무 일부가 美 유명 댄스크루 아이엠미(I.Am.Me)의 춤을 표절했다는 논란에 대해 입장을 밝혔다.
소속사는 19일 “미국 쪽에서 퍼플레이의 안무 영상 표절 의혹이 제기돼 우리도 놀랐다. 티저 영상에서 공개된 안무 부분은 미국 유명 댄스크루 아이엠미의 것을 차용한 것이 맞다”며 “이미 이런 논란이 일기 전에 아이엠미 측과 협의가 이뤄졌고, 뮤직비디오 공개 전 해당 안무에 대한 승인을 받은 상태”라고 설명했다.
소속사는 또 “일명 ‘코브라 춤’으로 이름 붙인 이 춤은 워낙 댄서들 사이에서는 고난위도 춤으로 유명하다. 춤이라면 국내 어느 걸그룹에도 뒤지지 않는 퍼플레이도 이 춤을 무난히 소화해 낼 수 있다는 측면과 아이엠미에 대한 존경의 뜻이 담겨 있었다”며 “미국 쪽과의 의사소통이 활발하지 못해 혼란을 야기하게 돼 아이엠미 팬들에게 송구스럽다”고 사과의 뜻을 밝혔다.

A controversy about dance plagiarism. Purplay got a stamp of approval from IAmMe of America.
New girl group Purply’s company PurpleIENT released their official statement about the controversy that Purplay copied some parts of their dance for debut song from popular dance crew I.Am.Me in America.
"We’re surprised about doubts from America whether they copied or not. Actually, it is right, we did copy some steps as revealed through the video teaser. We already agreed it with I.Am.Me before this controversy came out. We got a stamp of approval before we open the music video." the company explained
"This dance titled ’Cobra dance’ is famous for as it needs high level of dancing skills among dancers. We want to express that Purplay who is next to none in dance can dance easily and show our respect for I.Am.Me. We are very sorry to I.Am.Me fans as we were not very active in communicating and created a confusion.
